Claire,

I'm writing this through gritted teeth!!!!

I spent an hour this morning writing a detailed reply to you, and decided to 'preview' it before sending it. I don't know what I did, but the whole lot disappeared into the ether. I've tried all I know to recover it but without success, so I'm going to have another attempt later.

Anyway, it's nice to know that we are somehow related, even if it's impossible to define exactly how!

Incidentally, I live in NW London, so if you're ever in the vicinity of Watford/Euston we might be able to get together.

Regards

George

Claire,

A quick correction. Earlier I the wrong info on the marriage of Edward GONINAN to Ann CARTER. This should have read 27 Aug 1719 in Breage (Breage PR).

   Sorry.

Claire,

At the third attempt, I managed to draw out our relationship. I think you have done marvels to get it sorted. Convoluted is an understatement!

By my reckoning, you must be in the same generation as my grandchildren, whose ages range from 15 to 34. Whatever, I'm delighted to have found you.

In the light of the remoteness of your connection to the GONINAN family, I should not be offended if you said that you'd got enough information. On the other hand, you're welcome to everything I have on them, which is quite a lot!

My HOSKIN links are all in the Breage area at present, but in the light of your links, I'll try to look a little deeper.

Regards

Hello George,

I'm flattered you put me in that age group between 15-34 , but if you add them together you're not far off the mark ! (Thats my Grandchildren on the left)

Right, back to the Luce's, your new remote ancestors  :) I will try and keep it short, or I could go on forever. But G**gle has plenty of info to offer

My 6x Gt Grandfather Thomas Luce (1747-99) also had a daughter Sarah Luce, who married a man in 1790 called William Traill. Some history in the link

http://genealogy.northern-skies.net/genealogy.php?number=22

His father was a William Traill (occ. Navy), whose brother was Robert.

Robert Traill married an American Mary Whipple. Her brother being Gen. William Whipple who signed the declaration of Independence.

some info here:  https://archive.org/stream/newhampshiregenev4tibb#page/4/mode/2up

and here: http://whipple.org/william/index.html

Going back further with William Traill's  (husband of Sarah Luce) ancestry is his Gt Grandmother , Barbara Balfour, her ancestry is littered with Sirs and Ladies but is quite complicating. One notable is Gilbert Balfour ~ housekeeper to Mary Queen of Scots~ who by marriage was also his sister in law.

However remote, we do have quite an interesting ancestry

Hi,

How much of Ann Carters ancestry do you have ?

There is a book about Breage here, in it is a story about a Harry Carter, a smuggler.

Claire,

Certainly, some very interesting connections. Thanks.

Ann CARTER's father was Henry,  and he married Susannah ELMES in Gulval on 26 Dec 1687, but that's all I've got.

I've started a new topic on TIPPET, TOCKER and DUNSTONE, so let's see what happens.

Claire,

Sorry, another error. My HOSKIN connections are from Goran, St Ewe and Mylor, not as stated.

There is an entry in the Breage PR:-

7 Dec 1638 Fidelia PENHALE als GONININ dr of Petri & Margarettae

Is Fidelia (or Faith) a PENHALE or a GONININ?

Her parents are Petri (or Peter) GONINAN and Margarettae (or Margaret nee GAWEN)
