hi there

The 1851 census for Warbleton shows some 18 Avard surnames, but not your William or Charlotte.

Amongst those listed are

Thomas aged 46, widower, ag lab and family

James aged 29, Married, occupation Smith and wife Mercy.

George, aged 37, Married, occupation Ag Lab, and wife Mary with family

thanks for the reply Chris

George and Mary are my several times great grandparents.  Their son Shadrack was my great great granddad.  It is George's parents that are the problem I come from Warbleton and know from the records that his parents are William and Charlotte.  but there is no marriage registered and 2 possible Williams of about the same age were born in Warbleton aaround the 1780's.  There is a William who married Ann but that doesn't help much.  William and Charlottes first child was christened in 1810 and was a girl called Ruth but I haven't checked whether she reached adulthood.

I can confirm that a marriage between a William Avard & a Charlotte is not on the Sussex marriage index but noticed on the marriage details for the William & Ann you mentioned that William was down as VARD, might be worth looking at that spelling,

Thanks

I have got the sussex index and went to Lewes to look up the records.  That's where I found their children.  How do I go about finding the Kent records as I know some Avard's went out to Lamberhurst/Hawkhurst way and maybe Charlotte came from Kent. Which town are they kept in.

Maidstone has a record office and if they don't have them they will know who has.

Hi Solosoprano.

I've just found your look up request while trawling the web for anything to do with Avards in Warbleton. My wife's family are Avards from this small village and her ggg grandfather was John Avard (or Varde) who was the brother of the William you are seeking.

I have quite a bit of information on the family, not least that the marriage of a William and Ann that you have found was in fact probably the first marriage of your William as he married Charlotte after Ann died in 1802. Also apparently William was also known as George at certain times!

I have details of the family stretching out sideways and also back to 1698 from a variety of sources, but not all confirmed by me yet. I would be delighted to share what I have with you and would be interested in filling in any details you have on my tree. I think the best way would be to exchange information by e-mail off the site but am loathe to put e-mail addresses on here as it would be too public. I'm not familiar enough with this site to know if there is a way of contacting each other but perhaps you can suggest a way to do so.

Peter (in Caterham, Surrey if you are close!)

You can send a personal message to someone if you go into the square box under their name on the left.  You can put email addresses in that and no-one can see them.
