Grandfather is horribly damaged!

Please could my friends at RC see if they can help bring this newly discovered photograph of my grandfather back from the brink? Thank you one and all.

I have now caught up with this thread following a long absence caused by family loss and personal health. All good now and thanks to our wonderful NHS I am starting on the slow road to full recovery. Thank you everyone for your contributions and comments.
