Hi aghadowey,

I just assumed as they had a larger number of children, perhaps i am looking at this all wrong, will never get to grips with this family....
To be honest not even sure if Agusta is part of same family, just guessing with year born so close to William.

For what it's worth Grieg, the Norwegian composer, was of Scottish descent, the spelling of the family name being changed from the Scottish original.

Hello,

I put a request on here yesterday for help with some of my Collins family, now i have searched between 1880 and 1900 as most of them were born in this period and found none of them ? I am totally baffled, they are supposed to have been born in Leeds from what i have been told, not sure where to go now

Hi,

An unusual name so I wonder?

Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956
December 1908, Port of Yarmouth N.S.
Arrival: Dec 1908 St Albans, Vermont, United States

COLLINS  Mrs Annie  Age: 38  Married  Wife
COLLINS (son) Wm Greig  Age: 11  none
COLLINS ( " ) Arthur Joseph  Age: 9
COLLINS (dau) Elsie Mary Victoria  Age: 8
COLLINS (son)  Harley Llyn  Age: 8months
there is some writing above Harley's name  c/a 1-265155-(B) Boston, Mass 12/1?/08 - B+yes G 3/28/39 sig (I've tried to transcribe it correctly but I've no idea what it means)

All of them...
Can read and write (apart from Harley)
Nationality: dittoed as Nova Scotia Canada
Race:  English
Last permanent residence:  dittoed Nova Scotia Canada, then address is Brooklyn Queen's co.
Nearest relative etc:  no relatives
Final destination:  Ohio, Saybrook

1910 US census Saybrook, Ashtabula, Ohio
COLLINS
William        Head  47  Minister  Ang Church    year of immigration 1890
Annie G       Wife  39                                                             1893
Augusta M   Daur  15
William G       Son  11                                                            1908
Arthur J       Son  10                                                             1908
Elsie M V     Daur   9                                                             1908
Harley L       Son   2                                                             1908

I found the columns about parentage quite confusing to transcribe, they are,

Place of birth                        Father's place of Birth                     Mother's place of birth

Eng. English                          Eng. English                                  Eng. English               William Snr
Australia English                     Australia English                            Australia English         Annie G
Wisconsin                             Eng. English                                  Australia English         Augusta M
Can. English                          Eng. English                                  Australia English         All other children

So does this mean William Snr was born in England, Annie in Australia and all the children were born in Canada (except Augusta, Wisconsin)?  Looks like it....

I found them in 1920 Chichester, Merrimack, New Hampshire,
COLLINS
William B?   Head    56    Immigrated 1896    Minister
Annie G     Wife     49           "        1909
Elsie M      Daur     19           "        1909
Harley L     Son     11            "       1909

Place of birth              Father's place of Birth               Mother's place of birth
England                     England                                  England               William Snr
Australia                    England                                  England               Annie G
Canada                     England                                  Australia               Elsie M and Harley L

I also found,

U.S. Naturalization Records Indexes, 1794-1995
William Greig COLLINS
No: 3411826
Residing at:  1847 Massachusetts Ave. Lexington
Age: 33
Issue Date: 24 Nov 1930

Hope this helps,

Two births so far,

Birth County: York

Ellie Mary Victoria COLLINS
DOB: 31 Dec 1900

Both with

I've looked at the images of the above two births and Annie's name does look like HOOD, however they are images of "Schedule A" "County of Bruce"  in alphabetical order. I wonder if the names have just been copied from an original register and if HOOD should actually be FLOOD

I thought this because I've found this Australian birth,

Annie Greig FLOOD
DOB: 16 Aug 1870
Father's name: Thomas Alfred FLOOD
Mother's name: Mary Ann GREIG
Birth Place: Queensland

There are other children to this couple,

Mercy Margaret     4 May 1872
Thomas Arthur    27 Oct 1873
Luke Hubbuck      28 Sep 1875
Matilda Henrietta     11 Mar 1879

but I can't see the images for any of them so I wonder if these transcriptions could be wrong and it should be HOOD :-\

Going round in circles now ;D

No, I think it is FLOOD as I've found this marriage (remembering that Annie says her parents are English)

Thomas Alfred FLOOD    Dec Q 1864    Poplar    1c  1296
There is both Mary Ann GREIG and Mary Ann GRIGG with same details entered in the GRO index,

maybe they couldn't read her writing!

Daisy
