children of James Black and Mary Anne Warren
« on: Friday 25 March 11 22:36 GMT (UK) »
James and Mary Anne married in 1864 in Clonlara, Co Clare.  We know of at least four children born to this couple while they were living in Oranmore, Co Galway.  They were Elizabeth b 1865, John b 1866, Amelia & James born 1868.

It seems Mary Anne died young in 1869 and is buried in the CoI graveyard in Oranmore.  Six years later a James Black (her husband??) died and was buried in St Nicholas CoI Graveyard.  This couple left very young children and I would dearly love to know what became of them as I can't find any of them on the 1901 or 1911 census.

Can anyone help.

Cheers

For some reason, rootsireland.ie only has the following 3, all born in Oranmore CI parish to father James and mother actually listed under married name Mary Anne Black

Church Baptism Black Elizabeth Louisa 1865 Co. Galway
Church Baptism Black John William 1866 Co. Galway
Church Baptism Black James 1868 Co. Galway

I can see an Elizabeth Black that could fit the bill in the 1901 census, but note that there is a second Elizabeth Black born in Galway a year before Elizabeth Louisa per rootsireland.ie.  here's the entry

Cut & paste 1901 census details removed- please see this link for the information:

I presume you probably already have the familysearch.org record of James & Mary Anne's marriage and also 3 of the 4 children you mention (John, Amelia and Elizabeth in this case).  Mary Anne is referred to as Maria in all these records.  However, if you don't have those post again and I'll post them.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

In the 1901 census I cannot find any of these CoI Black children - but by then the girls could have married and be listed under different surnames.

The Elizabeth and Mary Black you found are listed as RC and both unmarried, so I reckoned they were an unlikely match, unless taken in as children by an "aunt" (they are listed as nieces) who was Roman Catholic and therefore, reared as RC??

Strange that Mary Anne, the mother, should be recorded as Maria too.

Any other help would be appreciated.

Thanks Hallmark but still no sign of these four children.  I would love to know what became of them.

Hi all

Its almost eight years since I posted this query, so I wonder if any new records have emerged to reveal what happened to these children.

Cheers
