DEATHS
« on: Sunday 03 April 11 08:12 BST (UK) »
Hi there,  JOHN ELLIOT  brn 1880 Gateshead Durham.  On the 1891 Census JOHN aged 11 was living with his family David brn 1842 and Elizabeth [Brown brn.1846]  Elliot, bro. Alexander brn 1869. Waverley Tce. Hawick Scotl.  In the 1901 census his family were in Wallsend it is stated they still had a place in Hawick and JOHN had died. I'm presuming that JOHN was buried in Hawick!!!.  Looking forward to hearing from you..  cheers,  Trish

Well, a death record lookup on SP gives only three that fit the (narrow) parameters:

1   died 1891      ELLIOT   JOHN    M   age 11   BRIDGETON   GLASGOW CITY/LANARK
2   died 1898      ELLIOT   JOHN     M   age 17   PAISLEY   /RENFREW
3   died 1899      ELLIOT   JOHN     M   age 18   CARLUKE   /LANARK

None are near Hawick OR Wallsend, so I'm not sure this is much help.  Is there a common alternate spelling of the name, or was he perhaps hired out (teenage boys often lived on farms as laborers) or even married instead of dead?

Sorry I couldn't help more - you might also try this site:
http://www.bordersfhs.org.uk/Index.asp
for help with Gravestone inscriptions in the Hawick area.

(Oh, and 'H' is my middle initial.  It hadn't occurred to me, but it does look like it's part of Anita when it's in all lowercase, doesn't it?  :)
