My grandad was William Henry Dempsey and grandmother was Rose Mcatamany.
William was gased in the war and died in England after being run over I was told by a tram!
Rose Mcatamany moved to England in about 1956 with her daughter Elizabeth Canning Dempsey born 1940, Rose died of cancer in about 1957.

Hi  :)
Apologies if this isn’t the correct way to address a previous post  :-\ but I’m very new to this and trying to navigate through it.  ???

I have been trying to gather any information with regards to the previously mentioned William Henry Dempsey (1886-1960) who died in a traffic accident in Birmingham UK … he’s my maternal great grandfather and I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to find his birth parents -

I know he was raised by his uncle and aunt (William Dempsey b1864 d8/11/1933/ Mary Jane Dempsey(nee Canning b1865 d24/10/1945) Both buried in Bovedy Presbyterian Church, where according to the 1911 census, was the area they lived.

I know that William Dempsey’s father was called James Dempsey and was a labourer - again, have come to a dead end trying to find any information about him also.

Would really appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction.  :)

Do you have William's marriage certificate? that would give status (single, widowed or divorced) and hopefully father's name and occupation.

I have lots of records pertaining to families in Balnameen but can't pinpoint William Dempsey there. Am wondering if he could have been known as William _ (another surname).

A few things that I don't think have been mentioned yet-

1911 census shows William Dempsey, age 25, single, born Ireland, bootmaker in the Army-
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X7V7-3Z8

His birth registration shows father James Dempsey was living in Scotland so that might be the place to search further for his parents.

Marriage of James C.Dempsey to Elizabeth Canning gives his full name as James Carson Dempsey in his signature-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1881/11008/8024978.pdf

James Carson Dempsey of Rasharkin was the informant for the death of James Dempsey also of Rasharkin on 21 June 1880, a married labourer. This is likely to be James C. Dempsey's father.
