INquest Borough of Derby
« on: Wednesday 06 April 11 12:25 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know how or from where I can obtain details of a Coroners Court Inquest held in County Borough of Derby on 24th November 1965 is that the type of record that has to be many years old before it can be seen?

I have never had to look for an inquest so this is new to my research.

Cheers

Hello Neil,

My understanding is that the records more than 75years old are open and are often
to be found in County Record Offices.  Records less than 30 years old are only open
at the discretion of the Coroner.

However some records less than 30 years old have been deposited with County
Record Offices.  So any records less than 75 years old you have to apply for access
whether at the Record Office or Coroners Office.

Restricted access may be given to Family Members etc., it is decided on a case to
case basis.

Derbyshire Record Office hold Coroner's Records for Derby & South Derbyshire
1956-1989  ref D3346 however to gain access you need to contact Derby & South Derbyshire Coroner.
Only address I can find on the internet is, they would probably give you further information:-

The Coroners Office Derby is
Derby Coroners Office
St. Katherines House
Mansfield Road
Derby
DE1 3TQ  Tel. 01332 613014.

There would possibly be details in the Derby Evening Telegraph at the time of the inquest.
