Abram Post of Albany NY
« on: Thursday 07 April 11 15:49 BST (UK) »
We can find Abram Post (born circa 1805? and sometimes called Abraham)...first on marriage to Phoebe Ann Miller in Charlotteville, Norfolk Co. Ontario in 1831,  then on subsequent censuses there after that.

Family knows that he was born in Albany, N.Y.  How do I find him....his parents..... the 1810 Census on Ancestry only shows  numbers in family?  Any ideas?  Thank you..
CARNALL of Derbyshire & Leicester; WARD & ADAMS of Buckinghamshire; MELLOR of Leicester; DUNLOP, ROBINSON, McCOY of Northern Ireland; PRATT, CHAMBERS, VANES and CARNAHAN of Ireland...and New Zealand.

Unfortunately, prior to 1850, the census only gives the name of the head of the household .  The tick marks and numbers refer to the number of males or females in a specific age group that reside in that family.  Aged parents might be singled out by a 20+ year age gap with the head of the household.  You can try and single out which "Post" families have a male in the correct age group in 1810.  Then, you can hope to find a biography  or historical books of Albany County that might mention that family in the Albany area.  If they stayed there long enough and were land owners, you can try and trace land records or wills which might mention the wife and children.  Unless you find someone who has already done this research, you'll have to try and ferret out this information yourself.  Have you tried looking for a "Post"
family history book?  http://www.lib.byu.edu/fhc/index.php is a link to BYU familiy history books that are online.  If you can access Heritage Quest through your local library, they also have old books online.  Also, try the googlebooks search, you just might get lucky.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thank you so much.  We'll start checking out Post books if we can.  Appreciate your help.
