Benjamin Rees
« on: Sunday 10 April 11 15:43 BST (UK) »
Sorry to be so vague but I'm on the trail of a  Benjamin Rees. All I know is that he was the father of a John Rees who was married 18 May 1845 in Haroldston nr H'west. I'm guessing Benjamin was born about 1790/1800 but that's all.

Hi

You say John Rees was married in Haroldston, where/when was he born?  Where there any clues with the marriage witnesses  :-\

Thank you so much for the reply. I know hardly anything of John Rees. Born about 1823 in H'west but I'm not sure. No real clue with the witnesses to his wedding to Martha Young. John Young father of the bride was a witness. Benjamin Rees is described as a labourer on the 1845 certificate.

Thank you so much. That's exactly what I needed. Yes indeed John Rees was a shoemaker who married Martha Young and Martha's father was also a shoemaker.
Many thanks

Kia Ora Greetings from New Zealand!
I am intrigued at the combination of REES & PHILLPS in the 1841 census conected with your family tree.

I am just beginning research into the family of JOHN PHILlIPS who I believe married Mary Ann REES Sept Qtr 1840 Pembroke.

They appear to have family being baptised in Angle Pembroke from about the same time.

I am about to post a notice re this family as they are known to have emigrated to New Zealand in 1868, leaving  some adult children behind!

Might there be a connection?
Regards
Dale

Hello Dale, nice to hear from NZ but I'm not immediately struck by a connection. In the 1841 census I have a 40 yr old Benjamin Rees although I suspect the age is just wrong and he was older. There is a Sarah Phillips aged 75 at the same address who I'm guessing is  a lodger or the Rees family's landlady. Angle is on the opposite side of the Milford Haven estuary from Steynton and  much as I'd like us to be distantly related I don't see it. However please keep in touch if you get anything else.
