Hi Christine and welcome to Rootschat  ;D

Do you know where this family came from?

Just re read your post.

Did Edward & Ellen marry in Australia?  Is there anything to indicate that Ellen was a widow?

NOWLAND could could be a variant of NOLAN and possibly of Irish origin.

Where did you get your precise details from. ???

Could she have been from Ireland, according to this site the John Bull only carried female convicts, the ship arrived in NSW in 1821

http://members.pcug.org.au/~ppmay/ships.htm

??? I can see no Nowland , only an Eleanor Nolan b 1801, she had lived in Roscommon where she was sentenced to 7 years

A little  more which matches your date.  :)
"John Bull" which left Cork in July 1821 and arrived in NSW December 18th 1821.

Census information is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Welcome to Rootschat, Rajah. Perhaps if you could tell us exactly what sort of information you are looking for about Ellen we might find it easier to help you.

If she arrived in Australia as a convict in 1821 and was married in 1822 then the marriage was most likely to have taken place in Australia. I have this vague recollection of reading that convicts weren't allowed to marry but I could be mistaken.

... i am looking for info on my ancestor ellen taylor nee nowland she was married to edward taylor 1822 they had 4 children , edward, elizabeth, william and john did her husband  die because she was sent to australia as a convict on the covict ship JOHN BULL december 18th 1821.

Or did you mean that she was married to Edward Taylor and had four children with him before being transported to Australia?

You seem to have a lot of this info already.  :) it all matches what I have found.

There`s no Taylor listed on the John Bull
"John Bull" which left Cork in July 1821 and arrived in NSW December 18th 1821.
She could have married Edward Taylor  in Australia , before marrying again in 1836, your date and place of birth matches the details for
`Eleanor Nolan b 1801, she had lived in Roscommon `

Does the marriage to William Davis state she was a widow. ???

It may be worth asking for some help on here.

Civil registration started in 1864, so it would have to be a Parish record.
Probably there would be an account of her trial in a newpaper.
Census information is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

NSW marriage search gives Edward Taylor m.1824 to Eleanor Nowlan/Knowlan (district = CD)
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=marriages

Also listed is William Davis m.1836 to Ellen Taylor (district = CE)

There is one Edward Taylor death 1834 and 2 for Edward Taylor in 1835 (both age 48 but different ref. numbers).

hello everyone, to find out more info i would have to obtain her marriage cert to william davis, and her death cert here in australia, i am unsure if she married edward taylor here or over seas.
What i would like to know why was she sent here as a convict, did her first four children come to australia with her whom she had with edward or were they kept behind with edward if he did not come to australia. Are there any photos of them i have 1 a photo of her with one of her daughters ellen whom she had with william davis here in australia. I just would like to know anything about them not so much edward as he no direct link, her parents and brothers sisters what did they do for a living where did they live, And try and go back as far as i possibly can as i love seeing this history on my and my husbands familys but thats another story his mother is a decendend from ireland.
Any way thank you so far for your help i really appreciate it

Regards
Christine

Hi Christine  :)

I take it you are descended from one of the children of Eleanor NOWLAN/TAYLOR and William DAVIS.

What information do you have that this Eleanor was married to Edward TAYLOR in Ireland, and had children with him there?  As others have found, there is a record of an Eleanor marrying Edward TAYLOR in NSW in 1824.

To find out more about Eleanor you could purchase the marriage record of Eleanor and William DAVIS.  This would be from a church register, as the date is before civil registration started.  It might not give you much information but would be worth getting anyway.

Eleanor's death certificate might also be useful, as it could show her parents' names and her children (if the informant knew them, and if it was registered after the introduction of civil registration in 1856).

There is information about purchasing these records here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,369703.0.html

For more help with finding out about Eleanor and her life in Australia, and how she got here, you could post a new message on the Australia board :)

Cheers
