Hi Galinda, we've been communicating on Ancestry just recently.  I'm afraid that i'm less and less convinced that Joseph Walsh, the Irish born catholic convict is the same person as Joseph James Welch, an Anglican who stated that his place of birth as London.  The ages and dates of birth of the two men are different and just don't match up.  Also, when Joseph James Welch married Hannah King his status was listed as "Bachelor" not "Widower".  There are just far too many discrepancies and a few too many "leaps of faith" for it all to hang together properly.  I'm really not sure that Joseph Walsh is related to the Welch family or that he could have been the same person as Joseph James Welch.

Hi Galinda,

Yeah, been getting around in pursuit of this Welch/Walsh/Welsh thing!  Been on here trying to see if anyone can track down the elusive "New Row" and if there is any way that any evidence can be found from the Dublin end; as you see so far, some hints but nothing concrete yet.

Love to see any certificates or anything else that you can turn up.

I've got a few other leads that i'm trying to follow, maybe something will turn up through our collective efforts. Hope so.

Have you still got my gmail?  Let me know what you find and i'll do the same.

Hi. I hope it’s not too late (I know it’s been about 10 years since you first posted this) I came across this when looking up my own family tree.
I believe the street you are looking for is New Row South. It was renamed New Row South from New Row on the poddle around the mid to late 1800’s There is 1 Walsh family listed in the 1911 census living on this street.

I hope this helps you in your research. Feel free to ask any other questions about the area.

Very nice, thank you. Any idea what year that might be? Possibly pre-WW1 20thC?
