Griffiths

Hello,
could someone please help me to find the marriage of Philip Griffiths and Margaret X?
Their three daughters were all born in Clodock.
Mary 1790/91, Elizabeth 1796, Sarah 1799.
I'm guessing the marriage was about 1790.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Clodock and Longtown, Herefordshire
All with father Phillip Griffiths, and mother Margaret (no surname given  ) -:

Richard 17 Jul 1786
John 15 Jul 1789
Mary 20 Feb 1791
William 17 Aug 1794
Elizabeth 25 Sept 1796
Sarah 5 May 1799

Phillip appears to be the first child so possibly looking for a marriage before 1783. I do not see one in Hereford on the IGI, however they may have married elsewhere ... There is a submitted baptism for an Anne 2 Dec 1781, same parents, also Clodock, but this will need confirmation before it is to be believed.

You are probably correct about the marriage being earlier, but I still can't find it.

With a surname like Griffiths, I was wondering about the possibility that Phillip and Margaret were from Wales and married there? ... (it's not too far from Herefordshire)

Rob, I've just been digging around. I looked on the IGI for Phillip Griffiths, selected 'all records', no date, and just specified 'British Isles' (no 'country'). There are a lot of results, but predominantly events occurring in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with a few in Hereford, Gloucester and Shropshire as you'd expect. I know it doesn't help you at all, but it's just a really rough guide (and interesting). I 'google mapped' Clodock and Longtown (as I'm not familiar with those places) and had a look around the area using street view - gosh it's lovely. Idyllic.

One more thought - it might be worth looking at the baptisms in the original parish registers. I'm not sure if there is any additional information given at this time in the this area, but it might be worth ordering up the film to your local Family History Centre and having a look at the registers yourself - just in case.

You are right about the area, it's beautiful walking country and just a hop step and jump into Wales.
Over the mountain to Llanthony is superb.
Yes they may have married in Wales.
I have a couple of fiche to order up so I'll pay a visit to my local FHC soon.
In the meantime I'll search the early censusses to see if I can find any of the new offspring you found.

Hi...My Great Grandfather's descendents are Richard Griffiths, born in Clodock in 1786. We have been told through research that his parents were Philip and Margaret Griffiths of Clodock, Longtown. I'd be very interested in any further info or possible relatives.
