What are the details of your relative's arrival (name, age, name of ship, year) - perhaps a second set of eyes looking at the passenger list can get a better idea of what the name of his contact was.

I agree. It looks more like a "T" to me but that doesn't match with the way the "T" was printed in Toronto. It definitely doesn't end with a "y" though - it's ?herlie.

In the 1922 directory it is Geo. F Pike at 27 Indian Road. I also checked the 1921 directory and it must have been vacant land, there is no number 27. As he came over in late October, a lookup in the 1923 directory might be helpful. Supposibly 1901-1923 are digitized; however, I do not find 1923 online on their website http://www.rootschat.com/links/0db5/ . Maybe contacting the Toronto Public Library to see where the 1923 is available online or inquirying with them as to whom was living at address in 1923 would help. Hopefully it will be your person listed on form for link RK posted.

Thanks for all the responses .

I can confirm I am looking for Masefield William Smith who sailed from Cork on the SS Minnedosa on the 12 October 1922 . Found on page 2252 of the microform digitation of immigration into Canada .
Destination to his friend Bertie O(?)herlie of 27 Indian Road Toronto Ontario.

I am cuurently waiting for a response from a search of the 1940 Naturalisation records

Any help is much appreciated , Masefield is my grandfather's brother and very little is known of his life in Canada

Hi,

I can have a look in the 1923/1924 directories to see who is at 27 Indian Road.  I will be at the downtown Toronto Reference Library next Saturday afternoon.

RK :)
