Thank you every one......

I am so very grateful to you all.

Genealogy , as we know , is very frustrating at times. It is just so lovely to be able to run things past other people, and get a different
point of view .

I have two ways to go now a) Get in touch with the guy on GR and ask him for more info and  b) follow Hackstaples advice and try and find out from the Guildhall more information about his sea records.

Casulguidi
Just read your last posting.
I have thought about all that, but trying to be optimistic. From what I have heard about Albert, he was a lovely man...but he died when my mum was
4 years old, she may only have been  remembering good times.....

This Albert Edward Hardy The manager at mineral works, married a
Caroline J Knell .........I have searched for their marriage , with no luck.
Their eldest child was 5 in 1901 , I have searched for the preceeding 6 years
and have not found them  . Caroline was from Canterbury .
Caroline J Knell , was the name given to me my David from GR.
I would send for the certificate myself , if I could find details.....just to get
the grooms fathers name...

Jeannie

Any further ideas are most welcome

Hi Jeannie,

Yes this Caroline is a mystery isn't she  ;D I too have been searching for her.
I have found her at home in Canterbury with her family in 1871,and as a servant in 1881,born 1865 and not later as the 1901 would lead you to believe.
But by 1891 she has disappeared.I too have searched for their marriage and gone up to the end of 1896,little Ethel was born in Dec 1895 in Southwark.

I suppose there's always the possibility that they never did marry-and just lved in sin  ;)

Or of course have you ever thought that these Albert's might be one and the same person.....or perhaps they are just cousins.

Maybe someone else can come up with more suggestions today.

By the way how did the GR chap know 'his' Albert 'married' Caroline Knell- has he found a cert- if so would he mind sharing the info with the rest of us  ;D ;D

All the best

Carol

Good Morning Carol......Every one.

I did ask David , the guy on GR for the information on Caroline and Alberts marriage......as yet (10 days at least) I have had no reply
But he did answer my 1st e-mail within an hour two, which leads me to think he checks the site regularly....

He may of course , be just as confused as I am......

I am going to work now, but will check him out agin, tonight,

Thanks once again

Jeannie

It doesn't help much (if at all) but a C KNELL, servant age 21 born Canterbury was a vegetable maid at The Chino Hotel, Spa Road, Christchurch, Hants in 1891

Hi Everyone.....

I know that this posting was a long time ago, but thought I would let you know the outcome..........

My grandfather was a bigamist !!

I sent for the 1919 death certificate of Caroline J Hardy, the wife of Albert  Edward Hardy, who was a manager of mineral water works, on the 1901 census......

It states that she was "The wife of Albert Edward Hardy, address unknown" Which looks to me as if she was deserted.....

I also sent for the marriage certificate of one of his daughters, and it gives  the same info about him, as it did on my own mothers marriage certificate......she died in 1993, aged 92

So there you have it. My Grandad was a naughty man.

Regards

Hi There......

I can't  tell you how thrilled I am !!

I still haven't found any evidence of Albert's marriage to Caroline, and boy, have I searched...so it is just possible that he never married her.......so was not a bigamist in the real sense......

I am sure, however, that I have the correct death certificate for Caroline...and that the poor lady was deserted.....It was recorded by a coroner, who possibly assumed that she was married...as a matter of interest her cause of death was "Heart failure, due to dilatation of the stomach from indigestion " Any ideas what the modern term would be?

As you all know, this was really my awful brick wall, I really didn't want to believe that my grandad could do this...but no matter how I tried, I could only come up with this one person, who could possibly be my ancester. As a genealogist, I feel complete !!

Regards to all

JeannieR
