Motens of Roscrea
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 11:50 BST (UK) »
Hello there,
As it stands from independent research and a scribbled family tree by my Grandmother, I have found this ancestral line of the Motens in Roscrea:

James Moten -M.- Eliza Letson                                             Great Great Great Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
Jack Letson Moten -M.- ?                                                                 Great Great Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
John "Jack" Moten (Bn. 1877) -M.- Elizabeth Henderson (Bn. 1884)
[appears as Morton on 1911 census]                                                     Great  Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
Margret "Dolly" Moten (Bn. 1907) -M.- Joseph Murphy (Bn. 1906)                Great Grandparents

We know that "Jack" Moten (GG-Grandfather) lived on Bunkers Hill and was the first Butcher at Roscrea Meat Products.

Any help would be much appreciated
I am sorry but my emails are no longer working.

Some of these may be relevant. The IFHF database is showing 7 birth records for a James Moton/Moten between 1837 and 1904.
To download and view the records costs euro 5 each.

Civil registration index lists a John Moton born 1883 Roscrea district, a John Moton born 1876 Roscrea district and a John Moton in 1920 Roscrea. Also a John MOTON-LETSON Jan./Mar.1894 Roscrea registration district volume 3 page 471 and a John Moten-Letsome 1916 Roscrea district.

The civil registration index record on the website will give you the details needed to order the certificate.

See here for details on birth certificates and how to order certificates-

LDS (www.familysearch.org) has some, not all, Irish births 1864-c1881 but this doesn't seem to be one of them.
