Joan Nightingale Fox GGN of Florence?
« on: Monday 02 May 11 19:17 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am new here. I am looking for information about Joan Nightingale Fox. She was apparently a great grand niece to Florence Nightingale. I attended an estate sale at her home last weekend in Middleburg Florida, and I wanted to get some more information about her. My daughter and I have been doing some interesting research but cannot find how she fits into the puzzle. We have seen the family tree's on the internet, and read all this site has about Florence and her sister, but I am really interested in how Mrs. Fox came into the Nightingale family. Does anyone know her name?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to Rootschat,  :)

I think we will need a little more information for any of us to trace please.

To you know where and when she was  born  ???

The more information you can give the better the chance of being able to find her.

agahdowey,
Thanks...for posting. These were the sites my daughter came across online, but still none of them showed us how she came to be part of the Nightingale family. We did find out that (we think) she must have been married before she was married to Mr. Fox.

Still digging on this end ;)

Remembered that someone else was looking for a link to Florence Nightingale a while ago-
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,376048.0.html

According to this site, Florence had 1 sister so if there is a connection to Joan she has to be descended from this sister (actually great-grand-daughter).
"Mr. and Mrs. Nightingale had only two children: Frances Parthenope, afterwards Lady Verney, and Florence, about a year younger. Born in Europe on honeymoon in 1819 and 1820."

There's also lots of posts about the Verneys, etc. here:

Hi

Harry Verney, Frances Parthenope Nightingale's husband had 7 children by his first wife

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Harry_Verney,_2nd_Baronet

There are no children listed to his second marriage to Frances who was around 39 when she married him. Florence would have had 7 step nieces and nephews all with the surname Verney (their father changed his surname from Calvert, as Florence's father changed his surname from Shore).

According to the Peerage website none of Harry Verney's daughters married and one of his sons died young. The other three sons married. Their children are listed and also their children.

Joan Nightingale Fox was my mother and after her death we researched the genealogy, trying to connect the dots. We discovered that her Nightingale family was actually not related to Florence's family at all. Joan's father had a sister by the name of Florence. Florence Nightingale and her sister never had children. As the family history was passed along, it was never verified.
