looking at the age of Emilys sisters you would think they would have been married by the 1901 census you could try seraching for Bill, Arthur and Dick on there

Ellenor J Lavender 32
William G Lavender 8
Ivy Lavender 6
Walter R Lavender 4
Arthur Lavender 1
  RG13;  483; 139;  42.

this one looks good to begin with
Arthur and William are there! is Walter R Richard?
who is Eleanor? that is the question and born Wandsworth too
so maybe not who you are looking for

I was just about to search when I saw you've found that, Toni

It could be them, it accounts for two if not three of the sons. Because of Esther's name inconsistencies a daughter might have slipped through the cracks...

The family might have come from Sunbury-on-Thames but that's just a guess.

Since Arthur killed himself I'd assume he was fairly young so it should be on Free BMD, I'll check and try to follow up.

Ach, nein! (sorry, taking German classes)

Found a marriage for William James Lavender in Wandsworth 1889 to Eleanor Jane Fuller. Then her birth in 1868. Then her on Familysearch 1881 Census, daughter of William and Elizabeth Fuller.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Still following but that Arthur lead...

I found a Richard Thomas Lavender, 3, in Lambeth 1911. Son of Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Ann. Elizabeth was 30, so Esther might have been pregnant with her in the 1881 census...
Marriages 1906 Lambeth:
Thomas Henry Lavender to Elizabeth Ann Meadows.
I don't think this is a good lead though because Elizabeth was born in Hollington, Sussex.
Oh well, back to Arthur.

Possible deaths for Arthur:

Arthur R, 1917 in Hackney (aged 28)
Arthur, 1930 in Hendon (aged 42)
Arthur H, 1943 in Surrey (aged 58)
Arthur E, 1949 in Willesden (aged 46)
Arthur H, 1950 in Uxbridge (aged 62)

Any of these could have been the one who (apparently) killed himself, I'll see if any fits.

I can't anything on Eleanor before her marriage so I guess it's possible...

Thanks for your helo Toni

I think Arthur Ernest Lavender (1903-1949, Willesden) can be ruled out because his mother was Mary, born in about 1877 and I doubt Esther had two daughters names Mary...
Plus she was Mary Walker before marriage.
