Flag in Mudford
« on: Wednesday 04 May 11 12:25 BST (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone have access to parish records for the Mudford area of Somerset? I am looking for any info on Elizabeth Flag b.1799 ish she had one son William b.1831 found on the 1841 and 51 census. I am seeing if they are in any way related to my family Flagg which come from Ditcheat
Many thanks for any help anyone can give
Ian

Dear Ian
We have only lately come to review our family tree. There is a definite link between our tree and where you had reached in you investigation. Are you still researching or did you find the link/connection through William Flagg/Henry Flagg? Would welcome the chance to liaise - If I can link the ditcheat Flagg’s with the Winfrith Newton Flagg’s in Dorset then potentially link all the way back to the Le Fleg in norfolk

I look forward to hearing you
Andrew

Not a problem wasn’t expecting a response from a discussion so long ago
We are descended from the Flagg’s that moved from Ditcheat up to Stratton On the Fosse. My grandfather was Herbert George Flagg b. 1908 married Edith Mudford. His father was Henry George 1863, son of George Flagg 1835 who married Jane Billen, think we’ve racked him through George Flagg and Ann Chinnook through Esau and Elizabeth Goopey to William born 1741. Married Grace Bennett in 1763. This is where we are stuck as I can’t find any records in ditcheat for Williams parentage or Flagg’s before 1700 but can find a William mentioned as the son of Henry Flagg 1699 and Betty elizabeth Angel Who were from winfrith newton - they also had a daughter Sarah b1742 and a son  john 1739.
Not sure if this all makes sense but does it tie in with your family tree.
I have also been trying to find more about Edward d. Gibraltar hospital 1805 having served on the HMS Defence. He was I think the brother of esau also spelt Essau
Be good to hear your thoughts?
Andrew

Your original post back in 2011 doesn't appear to have had a positive response.

Although living in Mudford, the 1851 census shows Elizabeth Flag born Queen Camel and so, this is her baptism:

Elizabeth Flagg bp.25/7/1800 Queen Camel, Somerset, dau. of Robert and Susannah.
James Flagg            ditto
(sisters Mary bp.1792 and and Hannah 1796)

Susannah Flagg was buried 25/7/1800 Queen Camel (same day as Elizabeth and James baptised)

Robert bc.1764 bur.31/3/1848 Queen Camel

Robert Flagg married Susanna Willis 5/12/1791 Queen Camel

Robert Flagg bp.11/3/1764 Queen Camel, son of Robert and Mary.
James Flagg bp.29/7/1770            ditto

Robert Flagg married Mary Hodges 8/11/1757 South Cadbury, Somerset - dau. Elizabeth baptised there 3/6/1758 then a son John bp.25/12/1761 South Barrow and by 1764 family in Queen Camel.

Cannot see a likely baptism for a Robert Flagg ca.1730+/-5 in Somerset.

William Flagg bp.13/7/1830 Mudford, Somerset son of Elizabeth Flagg, spinster.

I didn't mention her son William earlier as I assumed you already had his information and were seeking Elizabeth's baptism.
