19th Battalion Machine Gun Corp-COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 04 May 11 22:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Hopefully someone might be able to help.  Im currently researching a soldier who died in Jan 1919 in Etaples.

Im looking for some background information on his regiment ( 19th Battallion, Machine Gun Corp)   Drawn a bit of a blank,  believe around the time of this soldiers death the battalion where based in the Berneuil area of the Somme.

Would like to be able to confirm this,  and possible formation dates etc for the battalion.

Also, if possible a reference point to find out how the solidier died,  his service record no longer exists and i currently do not have access to "soldiers that died in the great war".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nikw

Is this R R Hillier? if so SDITGW does not list him.

Reginald Richard Hillier has only a Medal Index. This lists him as ' died' so it is possible he died of flu.

I take it that you already have the entry from the CWGC - here:

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=502210

There is a war diary for the 19th Battalion Machine Gun Corps - at the National Archives - here:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?SearchInit=0&txtsearchterm=Machine+Gun+Corps+AND+19&txtfirstdate=&txtlastdate=&txtrestriction=WO+95&hdnsorttype=Reference&image1.x=25&image1.y=11&image1=GO

Unfortunately it has not been digitalised yet, so it's not available as a download and can only be seen on a personal visit.
