The birth of Stephen Michael Asbury was registered in the Sept Quarter of 1861, within the Registration District of Tynemouth ( based in North Shields).

By the 1970s the name of this R.D. was changed to Northumberland South, still centred on North Shields. A death in the Earsdon, St Alban's, area,  in 1971 would have been registered with Northumberland South RD.

However the death of Stephen Michael Asbury, aged 9 yrs, was registered with the Northumberland West R.D., centred on Hexham town.

Hexham town lies 20 miles west of Newcastle. St Alban's, Earsdon, lies about 10 miles north east of Newcastle.

So perhaps some member of Stephen's family paid the extra expense to bury him in St Alban's churchyard/cemetery.

Repeating what I wrote on 9th May, North Tyneside District would confirm or not, whether Stephen actualling lies within St Alban's, and the grave site/number, to hopefully prevent any fruitless trecking around the cemetery !

There is another Earsdon which lies on the A1 road, about 5 miles north of Morpeth town.

Michael

As you may notice I know nothing of the area.. I am in Nottingham and have never been to that end of the country..

I have just found out that Stephen was in a hospital called Prudhoe & monkton, that is where he was cared for and died.

Its quite upsetting that my gran, his mother, doesnt even know where he is!!! I tell you, there are some family stuff you just wish you didnt know...

I was at Woodhorn today and asked the archivist about the nearest cemetery to the hospital. If that hadn't worked I would have checked Earsdon and area.

Glad it is the right child.

I have checked the Earsdon burial register which is held at the local studies department of North Tyneside Council and unfortunately there is no record of the burial at that cemetery nor Preston Cemetery.  The death is registered at the Northumberland West registry. You should email Newcastle registrars on registrars@newcastle.gov.uk who may be able to locate the cemetery where your ancestor is buried.

There is a Facebook page for St Albans Earsdon Graveyard and they have lists of names and plot numbers and maps.  Hope this helps
