« on: Sunday 08 May 11 15:44 BST (UK) »
My gg grandfather was William Gunn b 1832 and married a Catherine Sutherland daughter of John in 1851. Immigrated to Australia in 1856 where Catherine died not long after. William remarried. Any info on either family would be appreciated.

Not a lot I'm afraid, the family appear to have been shoved from pillar to post after the clearances.  Most emigrated or their children did.

Here's what I have
William Gunn m Ann McPhee (or McPhie) 10 April 1868 in Inverness (town) they had one child Johan (f) Gunn born in Inverness 4 April 1869.  Then nothing.  :-[

This is very old research of mine at least 10 years ago and I haven't revisited it for a good few years, there may be much more on-line now.

Hi Jenny,
This may be unrelated, but I have a John Sutherland married to a Katherine Gunn in Caithness November 1805.  Are you able to work out if they are in anyway related to your William and Catherine, as they had a son Isaac Sutherland who also moved to Australia in 1854.
If they came to Victoria, I am happy to do a bit of research in Australia to see what I can find.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi again,
I have a Catherine Levina Gunn died in Victoria 1857, but her fathers name was Abraham not John, and she is the only death listed under that name.

I have 32 William Gunn's getting married between 1857 and 1870 in Victoria alone!  You have a big job in front of you.....

Cheers Bill
