Hi,
why not send your photo to the Shrewsbury chronicle tel (01743 248248) , they publish old photos of the region every week, and ask the readers to gueese the location, If there is anobody living in Shropshire , that can identify your snap , they will let you know.
regards Pete.

A very late response, but to the question why is the Southport Visiter so named, rather than Visitor, is because at the time that it was first printed, "visiter" was an accepted alternative spelling for the word (the paper's main purpose was to list the visitors in town... many fashionable folk brought their eligible offspring to Southport for the season to find a good match, so knowing who was in town was important).

The paper kept it's outdated spelling.
Hodge; Southport, Lancs
Pugh; Salop, Liverpool
Hulm; Bootle, Southport

Clausen; Denmark, Liverpool
Yapp/Yopp; Salop

Looking at Skirlaugh - there is a chapel today on a junction which has the B1243 in the right direction from it.  Long long shot but maybe the church has lost it's steeple?  And is now a chapel? [Red Arrow]

Pam

Or the road number maybe wrong  ::)

Nice to know you found where the picture was from, and just for reference the church on the corner as stated in this thread is now being lived in and have a picture for your enjoyment

I run the local Skirlaugh Website and found this site from google with this thread

Hi

Could you help me on this one?  We have come to a stand still.  Can you find our Mystery hotel?
