I am just helping out a new member who wishes to reply to this topic, this is his comments.

"Yes, my maternal grandmother's family Birks were numerous in Bury. They ran the town's yard for many years at the end of 19th century, and produced Alderman Joe Birks, a mayor of the town".

"Fred Birks, aged 8 in 1901 census, my great uncle, was killed in WW1, as was his brother Harry Birks. Can fill in Birks and Kirkman link from George Birks b 1852 to present".
