Davies and Pugh at Kerry, Montgomeryshire
« on: Wednesday 11 May 11 20:36 BST (UK) »
Edward Davies married Hanna(h) Pugh, with parental consent in Kerry on 14th May 1817.  I would be interested to know until what age parental consent was needed at that time.  They had twins (Edward and Jane) christened 18th January 1818 at Kerry.

Any information about these people's parents would be appreciated.

parental consent was needed under the age of 21. Do you have a copy of the parish entry for this marriage? I can see only a submitted claim for it on the IGI. It isn't in the index from the Montgomeryshire Family history society.

it must have not been transcribed.

Do you have the couple in the census? I can see an Edward & Hannah couple in 1841 in Kerry, but they're 48 & 49 so shouldn't have needed consent.

IGI has an extracted baptism in batch C049491 for Kerry for Hanna bp 24/3/1793 daughter of Joseph Pugh & Ann

also Edward bp 1/9/1793 son of Edward Davies & Jane
Edward bp 9/3/1794 son of Richard Davies & Jane
Edward bp 20/1/1793 son of Thomas Davies & Elizabeth

Thanks again osprey, is there any chance it is the 1851 census you are referring to (the ages seem a bit "precise" for 1841), but would 14 and 15 been TOO young even with parent's consent in 1817?

some enumerators didn't follow the instructions, some toook them further. There would appear to be triplets in the family of my gggrandfather in Chepstow thanks to the enumerator rounding down where he didn't nned to.

Thanks for the map as well.  Unfortunately the 3 generation family you seem to have found don't tie up at all with my dates.

Thanks osprey, I really appreciate all the effort you have put into helping me with my various queries.

Apart from my original post, the only other information is that the twin Edward Davies (my gt-gt-grandfather) (signed) married Katherine Owen (mark) (born 1820, Trefeglwys) at Bethany Baptist church, Cardiff 20-11-1847.  Katherine was a widow (called Griffiths) at the marriage, they were both of full age, the witnesses were Richard Turner (signed) and Ann Williams (mark).

Although my notes do not make it clear, I think I remember (from 1883, when I currently have trouble remembering what I did yesterday!) that both parties at the 14th May 1817 were "with parental consent".  Given that their twins were baptised in January 1818, it is perhaps an explanation of why the consent was frothcoming.

The only tentative parents I have ever found (and that influenced by the girl twin's name) for Edward Davies who married Hannah Pugh are Edward Davies and Jane Jones who married 26-9-1775 at Kerry, though they would have been married over 20 years before Edward was born.
