1871 census

Would appreciate help locating an ancestor who was in the army at the time of the 1871 census. I am aware he was stationed in Preston in 1865 and moved to Scotland in 1871 but he is not on the Scottish census for that year, so I am assuming he was still in England in the spring of 1871.
