Hi Rob

l have only jumped on the RootsChat today have read all your research on the Turners that you have done over the last three years and your post from September 2008. What caught my eye was the mention of Turners and Brewood, Staffordshire. You seem to have a thorough knowledge of the Turners in this area of England along with Crystal and Joy.

l see in your past correspondence you are aware of George Turner and Mary Turner (nee Talbot) who married in Brewood in 1841. They left England from Southampton for Australia in 1856 with their six children and Mary gave birth to the seventh during the voyage. They settled in Ararat, Victoria so there is a line of Turners in Victoria that descend from them, including myself. We have all details of generations from the time they arrived in Australia until present day, but very little detail before their births in England.

I have their marriage certificate and both their fathers are listed as Thomas, and that is as far back l as l can go at this stage. Can your records of the Turners from Staffordshire see how they may link in?

I think one of your problems in finding where your relatives may be interred is many of the main cemeteries that we know today didn't exist. Nearly every church in that area has a small cemetery attached. Lane Cove was an all consuming name for much of that part of the North Shore and covered from North Ryde the west Bank of Lane Cove up to The East Bank of Lane Cove and Chatswood, Artarmon and Willoughby. There was actually no such place as Chatswood it came about around 1877 when an area formerly known variously as Lemon Grove/Orange Grove became the new Hub of Chatswood at the Top of Delhi Road and Lane Cove Road from around 1877.

As I was living at Chatswood from 2004 through to 2008 and my nephew was commisioned as the Architect for the what is now the "Concourse" I helped out with some of the historical research and lots of walking trips around the "Old Areas" I got to see many of these Old Churches and their respective Graveyards.

Well I can try I have Delhi Road in my last reply, wrongly. From Delhi it alters name and it  becomes Mowbray and the road to Fullers Farm obviously is now Fullers road.

So apart from knowing where I am going, I do mix up road names
