In 1870,  Gordon was called "Lane Cove".

That's why "Lane Cove Road",  from Ryde,  goes to Gordon,  and nowhere near what is called Lane Cove today.

They might have been buried in the churchyard at the Anglican church at Gordon,  which has quite a substantial cemetery by Australian suburban standards.

Hi there,

Tutors2009 has not been online at RChat since 8 March, 2014, but, fingers crossed, has kept their notifications turned on.

Neil mentioned earlier on this thread, "Lane Cove" as a district also included the  sub- districts we now know as Chatswood, Willoughby, Artarmon.

May I also mention that "Lane Cove Road" is also the former name of the now Pacific Highway, running from north-south, Milson's Point to Hornsby, and it was known as the Lane Cove Road for much of the 19th Century and into the 20th Century.  It is labelled as Lane Cove Road on various maps in my possession, and the other Lane Cove Road running from Top Ryde to Gordon is also labelled "Lane Cove Road"....

Sands Directories are available online, and may well be helpful.
http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/learn/search-our-collections/sands-directory.

However, if the location of Lane Cove Cemetery is still in doubt, then perhaps TROVE can be helpful, "Lane Cove Cemetery" in 1870s and 1880s at least, errr .... was in Lane Cove  :)  (likely Myrtle St North Sydney to Lane Cove Cemetery) whereas I would expect Field Of Mars for Ryde http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13443948     SMH 24 Dec1879  And of course I can be wrong.   But the NSW BDM death cert should have the funeral director's details and that may well help advance the quest.

Cheers,  JM

Hi sjreshab,
Welcome to rootschat  :) And thank you for your info.

From your directions and a map the cemetery is known as the Chatswood Pioneer Reserve.   The data is online here http://www.australiancemeteries.com.au/nsw/willoughby/chatswoodsthmeth.htm

It is part of the national trust https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/initiatives/former-chatswood-south-uniting-church/  It says the cemetery was consecrated in 1871.

I know this post is very old.  I just found that May Ann Johnson is interred in St John's Anglican Cemetery in Gordon, probably in an unmarked grave site.
There is a list of people interred in this cemetery and she is included in the list at: http://gutenberg.net.au/stjohns/people/Person1837.html
There is also a record for her in findagrave at: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/180110939/may-ann-johnson
