1861 and 1871 - Miles
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 15:10 BST (UK) »
Request lookup in 1861 and 1871 census for John Miles born abt 1826 in Llanwnda and his wife Ann (Higgon) born about 1830 in Llanstinan.   They were married in 1850.   Only 3 children are shown in 1881 all born Llanstinan - Thomas 1867, Ann 1871 and John 1873.   There were also grandchildren.   I'm hoping to find all other children born between 1850 and 1871.

Many thanks, Dave

Thank you KGarrad for the references and hello again Osprey and thank you.   I'm now looking at the Pembrokeshire branch of the family.   Could you please clarify the 1861 reference.   There seem to be 2 households at the same address that of Jose Higgon and his son in law John Miles.   Is this so or am I misinterpreting?

Regards, Dave

Looks like 2 families, 1 address.

FindMyPast has misinterpreted them as 2 distinct households - which is why Osprey is right and I was (slightly!!) wrong!  ;D

hi again, Dave. Yes, 2 households in the same house, different schedule numbers. Thought I'd give both as you mentioned Anne was born Higgon.

 ;)

posts crossed again - I must learn to type faster.

Thanks for that.    Unusual family, John Miles married Anne Higgon in 1850 and their son Levi also married an Anne Higgon in 1886 - sister, niece etc don't know.   Sorting that out will be a job for another day, meanwhile hope the weather is better in the more northerly parts of Europe than we are currently enjoying here  8)

John Miles was baptised in 1824 IGI shows 27 June at Llanwnda to John & Ashsha Miles. At present there is no mrge to fit this couple.

I suspect your John is the sibling of Margaret baptised 1823 and Martha baptised 1821, if that correct then the true parents may be John & Rebecca Miles.

Failing to find a mrge that suits the above I turned to my antique non index’d 1841 and find at Llanwnda
Achsa Miles aged 57 Ind(ependent) Yes
David Miles 12 – Yes

I have been able to find the burial of a John Miles at Llanwnda in 1836.

The above would suggest a mrge of John and Achsa circa 1805

This then adds Benjamin Miles baptised 1813 Ann 1814, & Levi 1818  to John & Achsha

I have searched and am unable to find any reference to a mrge of John Miles to Ashca Unknown. A long time ago I did some ‘Miles’ research for someone from the north of the county where if was found they related to the Miles of Narberth. I searched there for the mrge without success.

Hope this is of some interest.
