Headstone, make clearer if possible
« on: Thursday 19 May 11 19:35 BST (UK) »
Can anyone improve this headstone for me?
I have got most of the wording, but not all.  They were my husband's 3G grandparents.

Thanks in advance, Margaret

Sorry I can't help with the photo as I can't read it very easily on my laptop and I know this might be a silly question but are you near to the gravestone to revisit it? The reason I ask is its often easier to find what they say if you put paper on the front of it and do it like a brass rubbing, very gently as that can often bring out letters you can't see with your eyes clearly as the indentations give you clues. I had to do that with one of mine as it was so worn.

Thanks to you both

I am several hundred miles away from the churchyard - took the picture a few years ago (in North Cadbury, Somerset).
I have a different pic, but it is too big too attach.

As I said, I have got most of the wording, was hoping the photo could be improved on, for my records.  Here is what I have already made out -

S [   ] Memory
James and Joanna Beare, Late of Yeovil
James died July 4th 1849 Aged 59 years
Interred in St John's Churchyard
Joanna, his wife
Died November 28 1862
Aged 72 years
[  ] age interrred beneath this stone
In hope of a glorious resurrection
In memory of Jane
Daughter of A and A Bennett
who died Feb 2 18(?73)
Aged 5 years
Father and mother bid farewell
to their child they loved so well

Thanks very much for that, Jim, much clearer.

On a different note than photo restoration - James BEARE was buried in Yeovil, his birthplace.  Joanna BEARE was buried in North Cadbury, near to her birth place in South Cadbury.

This seems to infer, which I did not have before, that James was removed from Yeovil and buried with Joanna.  Have I got this right, or is there another interpretation?   ???  If so, was that legal/easily do-able?

Invert the image & outline the letters in black & then invert it again back to the original.
