Murray/Hyland from Athy Co Kildare
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 11:50 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information on my great great grandfather, Matthew Murray.  The only information I can find is that he was from Scotland and was in the British Army and at some stage was stationed in the Curragh in Co Kildare, where my great grandfather Matthew Murray was born in 1873.  My great grandfather lived in Athy Co Kildare where he married my great grandmother Margaret Hyland, she was born in 1890. If anyone has any information I would be delighted to hear from them.

which details are you looking for - do you have a marriage cert for Matthew and Margaret already ?

Full civil records started in Ireland in 1864, so there should be details for births, marriages and death for events from that date. For earlier details you need to check for parish records - so you would need to know the religion and where the families lived at the time (i.e. townland or parish)

You probably have all this by now but I'm amusing myself.

Thank you so much for all this information Sinann.

Can you quide me to where I would get further information about Matthew Murray and his wife Margaret Hydman?  Maybe if possible their birth certs?

He was from Scotland yes?
Do you know if his wife was also from Scotland?
I've never had to search records in Scotland, I believe you need Scotland's People
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
You could also ask on the Scotland Forum here on RootsChat
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/scotland/
If you do it would be a good idea to post a link to this thread so people can see what has already been found.
I guess I could look for more birth's to the couple, that might narrow down when they married, do you know if they had anymore children in Ireland?

There was a presbyterian marriage on 7 September 1857 at Sackville Place,  Stirling Road, Glasgow between a 21 year old Matthew Murray of the Barracks in Glasgow and a 19 year old Margaret Hytman of Duke Street, Matthew was a corporal in the 21st foot, son of Richard Murray (a saddler) and Sarah Keeley, Margaret was a domestic servant, daughter of John (deceased) and Mary Hytman. Just a possibility.
