O'Connors from Shanaknock
« on: Wednesday 25 May 11 00:53 BST (UK) »
I'm researching the family of James (O')Connor & Mary Sullivan of Shanaknock.  They probably married sometime in the mid-1860s.

I have found the following children for them:

  • Ellen, b. 22 Jan 1867, married Patrick Sugrue on 6 Feb 1898 in Ballymacelligott (he died shortly thereafter)
  • Honora, b. 3 Apr 1870, bapt. 5 Apr 1870 at Ballymacelligott
  • John J., b. 8 Jul 1872, bapt. 10 Jul 1872 at Ballymacelligott
  • James, b. 3 Dec 1875, bapt. 7 Dec 1875 at Ballymacelligott, married Bessie (nee Hassey?) about 1900
  • Maurice, b. 24 Dec 1877, bapt. 26 Dec 1877 at Ballymacelligott
  • Mary Josephine, b. 28 Apr 1880, bapt. 1 May 1880 in Ballymacelligott, married James J. Kearney on 21 Dec 1902 in New York City.

Mary J. (O'Connor) Kearney, my ancestor, moved to Boston in the US.  Her brothers John & Maurice lived there for awhile, but I believe they both went back to Ireland.  Maurice also lived in Chicago in the US for a bit.

I'm curious to know if anyone knows anything about this family.
CAMPBELL (Balleghan), DOUGLAS(S) (Carrowhugh) - Lower Moville, Co. Donegal
HUSBAND(S) (Sneem), SULLIVAN (Kenmare) - Kenmare, Co. Kerry
KEARNEY (Kilmurry/Castleisland), O'CONNOR (Shanaknock/Ballymacelligott) - Tralee, Co. Kerry
KEEFFE (Ballyhooly), HARRINGTON (Rathnadarrahy), DILLON - Castletownroche, Co. Cork
Note: My Irish ancestors ended up in Boston, Massachusetts area of U.S. between 1880 & 1905.

Think this is your James and wife Elizabeth in 1911 census-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you.  I should've pointed out that I had already found James in the 1911 census, as well as the father & some of the other children in the 1901 census here:
