Info on Galbally
« on: Tuesday 31 May 11 16:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have the following information on great great aunts and uncles but was wondering if anyone knew of or where i could find more information ....

Kathleen Galbally born 1901/02 in Carlow. Died in a fire at the age of approx 10.

John Galbally born 1906/07 in Carlow. Died in a motorcycle accided in his 30s on Meganey Bridge.

I have tried to look at the online paper archives but found nothing but would think that both may have been in some paper.

here's the best match for the death of Catherine :

 name: Catherine Galbally
 registration district: Carlow
 event type: Death
 quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1911
age : 10   (est year of birth 1901)
 volume : 3 / page : 264

A death cert would give you date and place of death, and should allow a more focused search in newspapers..

best match for John is this one :

 Name: John Galbally
 Registration district: Athy
 Event type: Death
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1934
Age : 26  (est year of birth 1908)
 Volume : 3 / Page: 183

Even though the registration district of Athy is based in Co. Kildare it includes sections of Co. Carlow.

I would imagine that incidents like you mentioned would probably be included in the local paper. Establishing the details from the certs would make that easier as you would have an exact location, and date - which would help establish which paper(s) to check.

The cert would also give cause of death and possibly the name and address for a family member if they were the informant.

€4 if you order using the references mentioned above - see :

 Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Death Cert

Research certs are photocopies of the register. Official (i.e. certs required for legal purposes) cost more..
