Might be useful to some but not sure what board to place on !!

In my instance I had a family member in the 1880's who was contracting and earning sufficient money to purchase a farm following immigration from Scotland.  He arrived with nothing and it seemed this was a better alternative then goldmining.

I was able to trace payments made for his work and money paid for land in the 1880's and convert to 2011 dollars.  In todays values it was seriously large money !!
