Admittance to Orphanages
« on: Wednesday 01 June 11 13:39 BST (UK) »
Hi There.

If someone was born 1916 in Edmonton area of London, would there be any reason why he would enter a Orphange in Bristol (Muellers ) on his mother's death in 1925 ?

Would one of the parents have to be born there, are am I getting confused with a removal order ?

It was George Müller's Orphanage, http://www.about-bristol.co.uk/ash-01.asp which, I understand, had nothing to do with where people were born, and nothing to do with removal orders, it was a private organisation  :) .

Just to add that boys over 10 were not admitted to the orphanage, so he just got in  :)

Stan....

Thankyou so much for that. Especially the link, which I have forwarded to a friend in Oz, who is trying to find out more about his grandmother. (Mum of child admitted to orphanage I have drawn a complete blank, and have been searchin for a week.

It looks as if they can contact head office, and get all the information they need ......

Thank You again

Hi, have just stumbled across this chat about Mary Frances Mapstone and the reference about admittance to orphanages.

Mary Frances was my great grandmother, does anyone have any information about her.  I did know, or believe, she had another child other than my grandmother, but I have not been able to find any information about him.  ??
