SWARBRICK families of Western Australia
« on: Saturday 04 June 11 21:51 BST (UK) »
Dear All,

In my never-ending quest to identify all Swarbrick families I have been looking at three possibly connected family groups - all from Western Australia and all from the 1920s - 1950s.

Swarbrick of Emu Point, Western Australia
William Hodge Swarbrick
Ethel May Swarbrick
Clara Edith Swarbrick
Son [Lieutenant RANVR] = Bernice Richards

[There is a Swarbrick Street in the modern Emu Point]

Swarbrick of Nornalup and Walpole, Western Australia
Thomas Hodge Swarbrick
Thomas Edward Swarbrick
Terence Swarbrick
Harley Swarbrick

Swarbrick of Margaret River, Western Australia
Robert Swarbrick
Gordon Swarbrick
Doris Swarbrick
June Swarbrick
Les Swarbrick
Don Swarbrick

There also seems to be some connection to the Swarbrick Forest/wilderness area near Walpole.

My intention is to try and connect all of the above to my already existing database of Swarbrick families.

I would be grateful for any additional information that anyone has. If there are any family members out there - then I'd be delighted to hear from you, preferably via a PM so as not to breach the rule about not posting details of living persons.

Thanks,

jds1949

Hi

The first SWARBRICKs recorded in WA - two births at Albany to John SWARBRICK and Fannie/Frances Mary WARD and were the ancestors of the families you are seeking. Plantagenet is centred on Mt Barker north of Albany, and I think includes Walpole.

Thomas Hodge SWARBRICK born 1888 #859
married 1913
EMERSON Nellie W PLANTAGENET #45

Lilian Mary SWARBRICK born 1892 #1492
married 1916
RICKERBY Robert  PLANTAGENET #19

Another son William Hodge SWARBRICK with parents recorded as JOHN & FANNY
aged 81 when he died in 1961  PLANTAGENET #69
married 1908 PLANTAGENET #21
JOHNSON Clara

Maybe another son????
SWARBRICK Frederick R
married 1911 PLANTAGENET #52
FOX Harriet

Was this marriage in 1889??
SWARBRICK John & MORRISS Fannie
ALBANY #162

SWARBRICK Frances M died 1917
PLANTAGENET #24

Thanks to Essie for the details of William Hodge and Thomas Hodge's births and for confirming that they were brothers - that is a great help.

Thanks also to warncoort for the newspaper link.

Dear Essie,

Thanks for the additional information. Based on what you posted earlier and also some backtracking through my database I think that I have now connected this family to one I already have. I believe the father to be John Swarbrick, son of John and Mary [Hodge] Swarbrick, born in Bootle, Liverpool in 1848. He seems to disappear from England sometime after the 1861 census. All that I have plus what you have provided would seem to confirm this. I can't find a marriage for him in England, so I presume that he married Fannie Ward in Australia - still to be confirmed.

Thanks again for your help,

Hi jds1949

I did find a 21yo John SWARBRICK by himself arriving in VIC on the ship ROBERT KERR in OCT 1869.

Dear Essie,

Thanks for that - it certainly looks like him, the age and time frame are exactly right.
