Lawrence BUTCHER Christened/Baptised 26 Sept 1802, South Moreton, Berkshire
Parents LUKE and MARY

Lawrence and Ann name a Son LUKE who must have passed away by 1841 or was elsewhere in 1841 Census;
Luke Butcher, 15 Dec 1830, Moulsford to LAWRENCE/ANN
So looks good that Luke/Mary are his Parents.

EDIT Luke and Marys Children are on the IGI, 1st is born c 1801;
Marriage IGI;
Luke BUTCHER
Mary SIMPSON
13 March 1800, Soutth Moreton, Berkshire

Now if Ann s Mother is not a Larcum then you can be fairly sure Harriet was "friendly" with a Larcum ;D

That's a good way of putting it Trish  ;D

I think she was more than just good friends though!

Here's his birth,notice it's spelt Larkcom,and the surname has been mistranscribed by the GRO as BULCHER

Births Jun 1851

Bulcher  George Arthur Larkcom    Wallingford  6 270

Hi all,

Just to complete the picture;
Moulsford PRs (exOFHS)
Luke BUTCHER bapt. 15-12-1830 s/o Lawrence & Ann, Blacksmith - "Died next month" - but where? He's not listed in the transcripts.
I couldn't find any other Butcher baptisms in Moulsford (other than Harriet listed earlier).

Brightwell Prs (ex OFHS)
Burials;
24-3-1876 Lawrence BUTCHER, Brightwell, age 75
14-11-1888 Ann             "              "           "  86

To confuse everyone there is a marriage of Luke Butcher,  as mentioned  by trish, in 1800 and also in 1835
both in South Moreton PRs.

Hi Alan,
LUKE Butcher who married 1835 is probably another Son of LUKE Butcher and MARY Simpson;
06 January 1811, South Moreton, Berkshire

He appears on Census as born c 1810 and is another Blacksmith!
Married to a HANNAH (Trees have no maiden name for her so if you want me to pass it on???)

Others on Batch Christened to LUKE/MARY;
HENRY 18 Jan 1801
LAWRENCE 26 Sept 1802##
JOHN 02 Oct 1804
JAMES 30 Sept 1806
ANN 09 Oct 1808

HENRY 1801, down as Brother, is with Luke and Family in 1851 Census, Unm, and a Smith!!
Did the Family have the Blacksmith Business tied up between them  in the area ;D

 Hi all,

  Thank you all so much for the mass of information you have been able to find out. It’s just a shame that it looks as if George’s father is probably a Larkcom and not a Butcher  :).

These are probably stupid questions but I’ll ask anyway.
1) Alan mentioned ‘ex OFHS’ – I’m assuming that the OFHS is the Oxfordshire Family History Society but what does the ‘ex’ stand for?
2) When you get a copy of a certificate from the GRO, where does the person’s information actually come from?
The birth certificate I got for George A. L. Butcher has the number five in the ‘name and surname of father’ box and an illegible hand-written note to the left of the first box which has the number 461 in it. Is there any chance that I would be able to look at an original document somewhere?

  Thanks

   Mallory

Mallory- this is a useful site with explanations about birth certs.

http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/births.htm

Can you post a little of the cert that you find illegible here on Rootschat,there are plenty of us with years of experience in deciphering such mysteries  ;D
