Tong Manse

I am looking for a photo and information of Tong Manse near Stornoway. I understand from googling that it is a registered historic building but have not been able to find much information apart from this.

Hi Suevize, I've found Manse of Tong on  www.old-maps.co.uk  and tried matching it up on Google Earth. On their streetview it looks as though the Manse may now be a farmhouse, but I'm not positive. One website says the Manse of Tong was for the Stornoway Free church though, not Tong itself.

Skewy.

Many thanks Skewy. I understand for the historic buildings register that the Manse is now a farm house. It did not mention that it was Free Church of Scotland so I had assumed it was established church - or maybe was in the past? Sue

Don't let me mislead you. pre 1840ish it would have been C of S, as the free church only started around then. Just me thinking all Scottish churches are free of the Church of England.
