Something Weaveress
« on: Monday 06 June 11 09:14 BST (UK) »
Hi folks

Assistance required for me on this one  :(    [Where Bethnal Green looks like Porthcawl Mews, anything can happen]

Haven't a clue, but I know you people will spot it straight away.

Best wishes
Mark ;)

If this census is in Bethnal Green, it could be a weaving job associated with the Silk industry?

No matter how many times I look at it I can only see Ironing Weaveress - which does not make much sense - think I should get back to sorting out the airing cupboard  ::)

There is more information on silk weavers in the East End of London at the London Metropolitan Archives.  Many of them later moved to north Essex and south Suffolk and it is this part of the story that interests me.

Try this link

Also mentioned are

'Narrow Fancy Trimming Weavers'

Soooooo, is she listed above as a Trimming Weaveress ?

The letter before the 'ing' looks like it could be a lower case 'L'

I thought that at first, but I opened it up in my programme on here and magnified it and I think it is an 'i' - there is a wandering dot above the word - and the tail of the final letter 'g' is encroaching.

Really must finish the airing cupboard (urgh) and then get to the dentist  ::)
