1832Inquest at Heage - On Monday se'night, JOSEPH HOLLAND and GEORGE HAWKINS descended a coal shaft at Morley Park, for the purpose of going to work, Holland went down first, and Hawkins having some suspicion that something was amiss, immediately followed him, and they were both suffocated by the black damp. Efforts were made to extricate the sufferers, but the persons who went into the pit were obliged to return , and it was not until eleven o'clock that the bodies could be got out.
