Can anyone help with any details- Frederick Wilhelm Paul ARNOLD B16-10-1890 Harburg? Germany a seaman lived most of his life at Broken Hill NSW Australia.
Nothing is known of his parents, brothers or sisters?  ARNOLD appears to be a German surname (or has it been changed from a German name?) Frederick  Arnold appeared in Australia in 1908 - 18 years old a sailor on the ship Koko Head from USA in 1909 Newcastle NSW.
Thanks to anyone reading this post, any thoughts welcome, I have no idea where to search any German records

Do you have details from his marriage or death certificates?
Is he the one who died 1974 on the NSW index - Frederick William Paul Arnold, parents Frederick Paul and Olga?

His naturalisation seems to be on Australia recordsearch as "Frederick Wilhelm Paul Arnold" (from 1939).
This record says he first arrived in August 1909 from the US on the "Koko Head"(?) (seems to have been a seaman) and was in New Zealand during 1910 as a sailor. Before coming to Australia he was in the US for 4 years as a seaman.  He writes his name as Frederich Wilhelm Paul in places.

Thank you jorose, you certainly have our man From records (128) from Broken Hill Goal he stated he first arrived in Australia 1908-but he may have also still have sailed away for some years before settling in Australia and Broken Hill. Now I need to find that ship. Thanks to you, looks like we have his mother and father. Thanks for your help so far...Cherokee

It's entirely possible that he mixed up exactly which year he first arrived if he was sailing back and forth at the time.  If the info on his naturalisation is right, he was b. 1890 and by 1909 when he turned up in Australia had been on sailing ships 4 years - e.g. on ship since age 14/15!

Recordsearch has another hit for him (not digitised) as Frederich Wilhelm Paul ARNOLD which specifies him as arriving on the Koko head, 1 Oct 1909
trove.nla.gov.au does show there was a "Koko Head" sailing from the US/Canada carrying timber in about the right time (as well as some other articles of interest relative to him and some of the Crase family)

Incidentally his birthplace on those records looks like "Harburg, Hanover", now considered a borough of Hamburg:

Thanks once again jorose. On the Broken Hill Goal record someone may had recorded the ships name wrong. Could find no record of it. "Koko Head " fits in the picture.  Have seen a few references to the family on Trove thanks. The ship appears to be from USA,- Frederick Wilhelm Paul ARNOLD a sailor arrived in Newcastle Aust October 1909 on the KOKO HEAD with no papers or identification, from USA. He said he was born16-10-1890 Harburg Hanover Germany father Frederich ARNOLD born Germany, mother German. He could read and write English well.Possible his family moved to USA? I am not aware of many places to search for any German births etc, cannot find any match for him.He married in Broken Hill Australia and is buried there. Thanks for any clues or hints

Hi Deb,

You might want to reply to this one more time as you need three posts to send personal messages.
You should see a green scroll under people's names - you click on that to send a message. If you want to swap details of living people or exchange email addresses, this is the best way to do so.

Also - welcome to Rootschat!
