Hi

Apenrade is the German form of the placename.
In Danish it is: Aabenraa or Åbenrå

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aabenraa
Aabenraa is one of those Danish places which has spent periods of time under German rule (Schleswig Holstein). As a result,  one might find records for  Aabenraa written in German, rather than Danish - or a mixture of both.

The IGI has good coverage for Danish parish records:
This looks like it could be him:

Soren SORENSEN
Chr 14 Jan 1847, Lotj,  Aabenraa-Sonderborg, Denmark
Father: Christian SORENSEN
Mother: Christine THOMSEN

Using the Parent search on IGI: It appears the same parents also had the following, all chr. in same place as Soren:

Christine SORENSEN - chr 6 Oct 1838  (female)
Bendix SORENSEN - chr 23 Apr 1841 (male)
Christen SORENSEN - chr 24 Apr 1844 (male)

Alternate spellings for the parents:
Chresten, Christen
Kjestine

There are good resources for searching Danish records online.
One useful (and often necessary) thing to be able to do is, conduct a search using the correct letters of their alphabet - for example - Lojt , correctly is: Løjt. And your man is Søren Sørensen.

Here is a tool to help you write the words correctly, then cut & paste into search fields.
http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/danish.htm

Another useful tool is: Google Translator
http://translate.google.com/#
Amt = County
Sogn = Parish

Danish Census Trasncripts
http://ddd.dda.dk/kiplink_en.htm
Not all years are available for all parishes in this resource:
For Løjt, the year 1845 is available and some much earlier ones.
Search availability here: http://ddd.dda.dk/soeg_hvader_uk.asp?sit=4
So you won't find a Census with the son  Søren Sørensen on it - only the 1845 Census of his natal family, before he was born.

In 1845, The family are in Aabenraa, Rise District,  Løjt Parish.
Easiest is to search for :Bendix Sørensen.

The family in 1845 is a mixture of Danish (Marital Status)  & German (Occupation) . The Place of birth uses the german form of Aabenraa but the rest is in Danish.

Aabenraa, Rise, Løjt, Stollig by Haderslev amt, , Instengebeüde, 474,
Christen Sørensen 53 , Gift, Holzschuhmacher, born: Himmer sogn Ringkjøbing amt
Else Christine Thomsen 36, Gift, Seine Frau -  Fødested: Apenrade
Marie Sørensen 9, Ugift, Seine Kinder-  Fødested: Stollig, Apenrade amt
Christine Sørensen 7, Ugift, Seine Kinder-  Fødested: Stollig, Apenrade amt
Bendix Sørensen 4 , Ugift, Seine Kinder-  Fødested:, Apenrade amt
Christian Sørensen 1, Ugift, Seine Kinder-  Fødested: Stollig, Apenrade amt

Holzschuhmacher = Wooden Shoe Maker (clogs!)
Seine = his
Frau = Woman/wife
Kinder = child
Gift = married
Ugift = unmarried

Fødested = Birthplace (Født = Born)

Cheers

http://www.sa.dk/ao/

.....are the Danish Archives. You can opt to have the webpage to introduce the resource and the instructions,  in English. Here are kept Parish records and Census - the original documents, searchable online - free.

To find the original birth record of Søren Sørensen:
Click the tab: Kirkebøger (church records)
Click the tab: Sog i Kirkebøger (search in church records)
AMT - Select : Åbenrå
HERRED - Select: Rise
SOGN - Select: Løjt

A list of the available years is listed.
You want the 4th one down: Fra (from) 1833 til (to) 1848.
This set of records includes births (F) & deaths (D) in the shown range of years.

Click the colored word: Løjt in the "Tekst" column in that range.
Allow Java to be downloaded and run.
You will then be presented with a tabled list in a new tab on your task bar, labelled 1833-1867,,,,,,,,,,,

The rows in the table are labelled: Opslag 1, Opslag 2 etc etc (side 1, side 2 (or page)_.

By guessing and logic  ;D (all Births are listed first usually, then deaths) , one eventually finds Soren's birth record is on Opslag 67. Click that Opslag - it will turn from red to yellow, then eventually green when the original document is  displayed for you (in tif format) to look at and save to your own computer.

Cheers

There was a Soren Sorensen Master Mariner that emigrated to the US, and eventually married my great grandmother Marie Nielsen (maiden) formerly North (really Nygaard).  Soren died about 1933 and is buried in Boston with Marie Sorensen.
