Hilson and Farrington
« on: Tuesday 14 June 11 14:05 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can throw any light on Robert Hilson who was a witness
in 1804 in Winwick to the marriage of James Farrington and Susannah Clarke.
In the 1841 census Robert is listed as born in 1771 but not in Huntingdonshire. He died
in 1849 but I cannot trace where he was born. The same applies to James; he died in 1835 in Winwick
at the age of 61 but I cannot trace where he was born c. 1774. I note that Susannah was from
Sawtry;and Robert was living with his wife Alice and family at North Road Lodge, Sawtry St Judith
in 1841. It may well be that Robert Hilson and James Farrington were friends and may well have
come from the same place. I hope someone can throw some light on where these two originated.

Thank you for the suggestions. I note the Lancashire births but I cannot link
them with Huntingdonshire.

I have a John Farrington marrying into my mother's family in mid 19th century Cambridge, only 20 miles from Huntingdon.

Hi, I am looking for Hilsons too. I am trying to trace George Hilson born Coppingford  1786 and his wife Susan/Susannah born Warboys 1796. George was a farmer and I just wondered where I might find their marriage?
I have found the birth of a George baptized in Stow son of Joseph and Elizabeth 1786, and although I would love to say that that is him I think I need to find the marriage first.
I don't seem to be able to locate any parish registers on line.

It was usual for a marriage to take place in the home parish of the bride, so try Warboys first!

Mallard. I will be going to Huntingdon Record Office soon, and I will look up George
Hilson in Coppingford and his Susannah in Warboys. I will let you know what I find.

Best to try Hunts Marriage Index first

1818 Pidley cum Fenton George Hilson and Susannah Tayler, both otp (my fiche has a blob on it so the year might be 1819!)

I don't seem to be able to locate any parish registers on line.

That's because the LDS was refused permission to film many parish registers. Some are on the IGI, and more are on the BVRI, but in many cases you have to go to Huntingon Records Office (or use their research service)
