Thanks for the tip ........ I will remember that one!
Trying to get back to Nicholas' Cumberland roots now to
see if I can tie him in with my Doran's there.
A family member recalls her mother talking of a Nicholas
Doran in Wales they visited him and spent time fishing, so
this does look like the Nicholas she talked of.
Is there any other way of finding details of the marriage cert.
without odrering? ........ can I make an enquiry? ...... would
obviously like to know father's name.

I doubt they would give any details , and  as it`s a Civil marriage it was either in a Register Office or a Chapel, ( non conformist). They didn`t keep parish registers as the Church  does, so you can`t  just look in the registers.
http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/marriageinfo.php
You can get it direct from the Cheshire office rather than the main one,

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1886 to 1890
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
DORAN Nicholas PEERS Jane Chester, Civil Marriage Cheshire West ROC/25/162

Looks like Nicholas lived to a good age  :)
Deaths Dec 1947
Doran  Nicholas  81  Holywell  8a 460
Deaths Dec 1935
Doran  Jane  69  Holywell  11b 218

Wilcoxon,
Thanks so much for all the information, I am really on a roll
now!! ...... wow!
I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and pay for the
marriage cert.
Did have a quick look for Nicholas before I had to break off
and go to work, but like you drew a blank with any previous
census material.......he really is a mystery!
I really think this is the Nicholas I have been searching for,
as his 1st daughter Annie Mary seems to be named after
Jane's mother Anne and Nicholas' mother Mary Doran.
I have not been able to find Nicholas' siblings John and
Elizabeth(my gt gt grandmother) births in Whitehaven
either. As with them I strongly suspect they were all born
in Ireland, probably County Down ...... again still looking!!
Nicholas' parents: Mary and John Doran, came from Ireland
circa 1871, John died Whitehaven 1872 and was a master
mariner.
Thankyou so much for all your help.

Nicholas Doran b.1865 Whitehaven, wife Jane Doran b.1865 Northop Parish
and their children Lizzie Jane b. 1895 and Annie M b. 1893 both Northop.

Hmmm.
Marriages Sep 1924
DORAN  Annie M  / Jones  Wrexham  11b 402
North Wales BMD narrows it  down to this.
DORAN Annie M ,Gwersyllt, Holy Trinity
JONES Llewelyn O
JONES Thomas

Births Jun 1925
Jones  Albert H  MMN  Doran  Wrexham  11b 426

Gwersyllt is only about 12 miles  from Northop and I can see the Church from my window.
It may be worth taking a look at this. Such a shame both spouses are Jones  ::) ::) ::)

Wilcoxon.
You are officially my Flintshire Expert ;D
Though I must tell you that my Doran's have been
notoriously difficult to research, and now you have
added a 'Jones' into the mix. ::)
Will pm you!
ps Nicholas' father is William Doran as stated on marriage
     certificate.
