Amended: Divers/Barron
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 13:27 BST (UK) »
Greetings from Australia,

I'm on a mission for a friend

We have a Hugh Divers married to Margaret (Maggie) McKendrick Barron. Don't know when. Married in 1929.

They had a daughter Mary in 1931. She married a Mr Doorey in 1954

Only other reference is Clydebank Ballock.

I haven't looked at Scotspeople, yet. On Scotlandspeople I have found Hugh Divers married to Margaret Barron Old or West Kilpatrick Dumbarton.  The daughter is listed as born in the same area, but an image of her birth isn't available on line.

Hugh's folks: Edward and Margaret (Leonard) - Margaret deceased  Edward - Iron driller
Margaret's: Matthew Barron and Margaret (Graham)  Matthew - Boilermaker

Hugh - Shipyard Labourer
Margaret - Cork Cutter

Both living at 28 John Knox St Clydebank at time of marriage: 23 September 1929

Any findings would be most welcomed, as I'd like to be able to ensure these are the couple I'm looking for.

Think I'll check with the friend to see if she has her mother's birth cert to see if it actually states her grandmother's maiden name as, McKendrick, rather than Barron.

Good news! I was on the right track after all.

Here is what I have thanks to Scotlandspeople website:

1954:Mary Mckendrick Divers married Mervyn Vincent Doorey - Kelvingrove Glasgow City Lanark

Mary Divers was born 1931 Old or West Kilpatrick, Dumbarton

Parents of Mary: Hugh Divers and Margaret Barron - married 1929 Old or West Kilpatrick, Dumbarton. Hugh was a shipyard labourer and Margaret a cork cutter. They were living 28 John Knox St, Clydebank.

Hugh's parents: Edward Divers - Iron driller  Margaret nee Leonard - deceased at time of Hugh's marriage.

Margaret's parents - Matthew Barron - Boilermaker  Margaret nee Graham

1911 - census
Mathew Barron 31 Boiler rivetter - Shipbuilding yard worker - Born Ireland
Margaret 28 born Renton, Dumbartonshire, as were the children
Robert 4
Margaret 2 - born 66 Alexander St, Alexandria - Parish of Bonhill

They had been married 5 years and had one child deceased.

I have not been able to find any information on Hugh's family. I'm wordering if his mother had died in Ireland and Hugh came alone to Scotland.

I haven't been able to find the marriage cert for Matthew and Margaret nee Graham.

Any help much appreciated.

On Margaret's - aged 2 - birth cert it says that her parents were married Dec 31 1905 at Old Kilpatrick. I can't find this on SP.

I can't find marriage in 1877 for Graham/Welch either. I've never had this problem before.

Does anyone have access to 1881 Scottish census? My 14 pounds are spent.  :'(

I'm thinking there is a connection here on the 1851 census:

GRAHAM Walter 40 Block Printer Lanarkshire - Glasgow
GRAHAM Sarah   Wife 35 Dunbartonshire - Bonhill
GRAHAM John Son 15 Worker (Printfield) Dunbartonshire - Bonhill
GRAHAM Walter 8
GRAHAM Margaret 6
GRAHAM Agnes    4
GRAHAM Thomas 10m

Now that would make John 41 at time of marriage. It wasn't unheard of and could it have been a second marriage?

Try Graham/Welsh - 1878.

Kind of lost the plot but could this be Edward and family in 1901 at 19 John Knox St, Clydebank?

James Diver    52 born Donegal
Bridget Diver    42 born Donegal
Winifred Diver    21 born Donegal
Mary Diver    18
Rose Diver    15
James Diver    12
Edward Diver    10 born Clydebank
Grace Diver    6
Damel Diver    3

An Edward Diver marries a Maggie Lennon in 1907 at Dunbarton.

Try the 1911 with just Diver and I think you'll find them ok.
