It would most likely depend on the date but as a general rule records less than 100 years old are unlikely to be available.

 Partially free on google books, says that the records are held at St. Sennan's itself, in some cases. See p.102- 108 for a rather grim account of the hospital. 108 gives the records in a footnote.

"Áine McCarthy has a strong connection with Enniscorthy and surrounds arising out of research she did for an MA dissertation into committal to what was then called Enniscorthy Lunatic Asylum (1916-1925), research that was published in Irishwomen’s History – A Reader. For a year she spent many hours in a little room in St. Senan’s hospital, looking through the old Victorian casebooks and admittance records, exploring why people – especially women were locked away, often for life, and what their lives were like in the asylum. The character Nora in Lovers’ Hollow is based on the case history of one of the inmates. "

Thanks to you both, it makes for interesting reading. I am actually hoping to find records of my gt grandfathers brother  Matthew Lyons who apparently was a well known and very good runner. It seems that sometime after he was 'asked' to give up his running he was admitted to St Senens. I do not know Matthews date of birth but my gt grandfather was born in 1886, and I believe that Matthew also died in the asylum.

If he died in the asylum it should say so on his death register. I cant imagine any files are kept in the hospital itself as its a derelict building.
 I'm also trying to find information on a peter edwards who worked and died there in the 20s and his mother annie oneill, so if you find any records please come back and let us know.
