Anthony Sutton
« on: Sunday 19 June 11 12:12 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the parents (family) of my GG Grandfather Anthony Sutton who was born 1803 Glasnamullen, County Wicklow  and emigrated to Canada in 1818 at age 15 yrs.  It is possible that an Annie Sutton & her brother John who emigrated at the same time were Anthony's siblings.  There may be clues from Suttons buried at Calary church.   Searching for years.  Any help appreciated.

Hi.  Thank you for your suggestion.  How do I get the Family Search Site?

The FamilySearch website is at https://www.familysearch.org/ but you will not find many Irish records on that system for the timeframe you are interested in.

Full civil registration started much later in 1864, and few rural parishes have records back as far as 1800.

Do you know the denomination of your Sutton family ?

The townland of Glasnamullen is in the Civil / Church of Ireland parish of Calary, and the RC parish of Bray.

see : Introduction to Irish Records

Thank you for your reply.  Yes the "family search" does in fact find Anthony Sutton, however it sheds no light on his parents or siblings.  Is there a site in Wicklow that lists online names buried in cemeties there?  Calary Church or others in that area?
Thanks again
Lee

you can see a transcription for Calary (CofI) at this link, but it's a cached version from google - the live IGP link seems to be broken - link

what type of record is the one you found on FamilySearch ?

I see references to several Canadian records - a death and two census returns. Is this your Anthony ?

  Name: Anthony Sutton
  Event: Death
  Date: 16 Jun 1878
  Place: Dunwich, Elgin, Ontario
Age: 75  (estimated year of birth year: 1803)

1861 and 1871 Census returns - located in Southwold, Elgin, Ontario in 1861 and Dunwich b, West Elgin in 1871. Both list him as Widowed, and the 1871 detail shows him as Church of England

I'm not familiar with Ontario BMD records, but maybe the death cert would give you the name of his parents and other useful clues ?

It might also be worth checking out the details of those census returns to see if any family are included

Unfortunately historic Church of Ireland records (equivalent to CofE at the time) for the parish of Calary do not survive.

The oldest records listed for the parish in the RCB Library are marriages from 1845, which would be civil records.
