To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

« Reply #3 on: Wednesday 12 June 13 14:27 BST (UK) »
Hi from Bonnie Dundee in Scotland.

I am looking on information on my ancestors which I believe came from Longford?
JAMES DONAGHEY /DONACHIE BORN 1848 SHOEMAKER MARRIED MARY REILLY BORN 1848

I would be so grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction?

Kind Regards

one of your posts on the Scottish boards mentions '....great grandfather Joseph Donachie who was born  around 1872 in Ireland....', which might be the place to start your search, as he should be included in civil records> You would need a more detailed location to start any search for James and Mary as they were born before the start of civil records.

Very few births listed as Donachie or Donaghey, but there is this possible match in the extracted civil births on FamilySearch - right area, date is not too far off, and surname is a variation of Donoghue, which at least sounds similar so might be where Donachie/Donaghey derived ...

    Name : Joseph Donoho
    Birth Date : 24 May 1869
    Birthplace : Co. Longford
Parents : James Donoho & Mary Reilly
    Ref. : v 8-1 p 238

A research cert would give a more detailed location, probably the name of the town or townland where the birth took place, and also include father's occupation - which might help..

These are the full references you need to order a cert from the GRO :

  Name : Joseph Donoho
  Event Type : Birth
  Year : 1869
  Registration District : Granard
  Volume 8 / Page : 238

Granard is the name of a town and also a registration district in Co Longford.

see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Birth Cert

Do you know the names of any of the siblings to your Joseph from Scottish records ?
There are some other possible children to this couple in extracted civil records that might help matching up, or ruling out, this couple.

Hi Dundee Born

Looking at your old post it appears that you are in touch with Dundee Lass

The information that Shane posted I gave to Dundee Lass nearly a year ago - was this cert ordered ?
