Spalding Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 15 June 04 00:36 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone  :D

I have just found an ancestor in the Spalding Workhouse on the 1881 census. Whilst reading about the workhouse on the Rossbret Workhouses website I noticed that an email address was given for records held at Lincolnshire Archives.

Can anyone tell me what type of information can be accessed? I wouldn't have a clue what to ask for! ???

Hi Aaron,

The GENUKI page for Spalding has the following:

'The Lincolnshire Archives has the Spalding Poor Law Union Guardians' minute books (1835-1930); Admissions and discharges (1913-16, 1924-8); Creed register (1914-36); Punishment book (1862-1929); Register of lunatics (1914-48) and some misc. documents.

There are no birth or death registers for Spalding Workhouse.

For more on LFHS and the Lincoln Archives have on Lincolnshire Poor Law records, see our Poorhouses page.

Hi Sasha  :D,

thanks for the quick response and for pointing me in the right direction. This is my first experience of researching a workhouse and I was a bit lost. Much obliged for the info.
