Help with Williams famiily please
« on: Sunday 26 June 11 11:42 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

After days of trying to solve this family Lesanne and myself are asking if anyone can help us please.... This is what we have.....

Frances Mary Ann Williams was b abt 1832 in Berriew
She married Thomas Turner and on her marriage cert it gives father as Richard Williams and occ looks like coachman.
We believe Richard died 6 Aug 1878 age 77 in Pennant ( on obit it gives Wood Cottage, Pennant )

Now what we need help with is Richard in census, marriage and birth if possible.
We also cant find a Frances in 41 with father Richard.
If anyone can help we would be very grateful :)

Well Sue after looking at Census entries,I'd like to ask whether both Thomas Turner and Frances M A had been married before,or whether Frances had children whilst she was still single?

Richard Williams. Frances Mary Ann's father.. we thought we had found in 1841 Berriew (FMA's b'place).
BUT...  ;D 1851 and 1861 Richard is not being very helpful. As he died 1878 in Pennant/Berriew, he should be abt in 1871 too.

Thomas Turner was 1st married(1850) to Sarah Knight in Windsor Berks.
This is Frances Mary Ann's 1st marriage(1867).

Frances Mary Ann is first found in 1871 census in Bray... so where is she in previous.

Thank you
Lesanne

Hello,

you would assume that as Esther and Jane are born Mongomeryshire and are entered as stepdaughters, that she would be around there in 1861.

1861 RG9; Piece: 4253; Folio: 69; Page: 7
has an Esther as a nurse child and there is a birth on Free BMD which may be her and also a possible birth for Jane.
Have you looked at these yet?

Is Richard Williams definitely entered in the column on the Marriage Cert where it should say fathere of bride?I'm worried that there is no sighting of Frances M A as Williams before she appears in 1871.

:) Yes. defo.. Richard Williams (Coachman) and his obit card 6th Aug 1878.

:)  We have looked at Jane and we think she marries...
1st George Finch 1881 cookham
2nd Andrew Rance 1904 maidenhead

Esther M.. nothing more. Although... ;) there is an Esther M that marries a George Inch in Scarborough 1881.

Charles1856 (nephew in 1871 Bray) we think b Montgomery?
George1854 (son in 1881Bray)  b St Martin in the fields?

sorry to keep asking- are you sure that is your Richard?

Who reported his death?

I was asking because there was one of a similar age in Newtown registration district living with his son in law. However, when I look at the death indexes, there is also one of a 73 yr old which could be the one I was looking at- plus several 60+ men.

:D Please, you keep asking Heywood. That's how we find missing bits.

The date above is defo our Richard. Its from family Obituary cards.

It's Richard in census, with a wife and children.

Having taken advice from an expert on the area,I think we can narrow the search for Jane's birth down to three showing in the Newtown District of Montgomeryshire in 1859.One is showing in the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter and there are two in the Apr/May/Jun quarter.Of course on Census they went by age next birthday ideally!Have you thought of getting the Williams/Finch marriage cert?
